The best way to prevent tooth decay and gum disease is to fight plaque every chance you get. Plaque is a white, sticky substance that clings to your teeth and threatens your smile, and it’s very important to do all you can to clean this substance off your pearly whites each day. To help you control the plaque growth, our Borgmeyer Dental team recommends doing the following things:

· Keep up on oral hygiene: Oral hygiene will help you decrease the amount of plaque growth on your smile. All you need to do is brush twice a day and floss and rinse once. While you do these tasks, it’s important to use the right tools. So, please use a soft-bristled toothbrush, fluoride toothpaste, and fluoride or antibacterial mouthwash.

· Have a balanced diet: Eating healthy foods will help your body and teeth stay in tip-top shape. So, if you want to prevent plaque growth, please limit your sugar and carbohydrate intake.

· Visit your dentist: Dental cleanings are the only successful way to completely clean the plaque off your smile, which is why it is strongly recommended to have a cleaning every six months. Therefore, it’s best to keep up on your cleanings.

· Replace your toothbrush: Toothbrushes tend to get worn out often, and when they’re worn out, they won’t properly clean your smile. So, it’s best to replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months so you can clean your chompers with a strong and efficient tool daily.
