A dental crown is a strong dental restoration that helps fix a worn-down, broken, severely decayed, oddly shaped, or a chipped tooth. It is a prosthetic device that is cemented onto the tooth and replaces the enamel. With the help of this restoration, you can restore the health and function of your chomper. Our dentist, Dr. David J. Borgmeyer and Augustine Borgmeyer, is happy to tell you more about dental crowns by giving you the details of treatment and care.

Dental crown treatment
The first step of treatment will be your dentist numbing your tooth and surrounding gums with a local anesthetic (numbing agent). When you can’t feel a thing, they will trim the outer layer of the tooth (the tooth enamel) to make room for the crown. When the abutment is the right size and shape, your dentist will take an impression and will send that impression to the dental lab. There, technicians will create a crown just for you. While you wait, your dentist will cover the abutment with a temporary crown.

Dental crown care
Your dental crown can last a lifetime—but only if you take good care of it. If you practice good oral hygiene (brushing, flossing, rinsing, and visiting your dentist), you’ll be on the right track toward maintaining a strong and effective dental crown.
