Does your smile make you feel self-conscious? Do you have gaps and spaces in your smile as a result of missing teeth? If you would like to restore your smile, Drs. David and Augustine Borgmeyer may recommend dental implants. Dental implants consist of replacement tooth roots, made up of a titanium post, topped with a restoration. Depending on your needs, this restoration can be a dental crown, a dental bridge, or dentures.
Our dentists will surgically place the small, titanium post in the bone socket of your missing tooth. During your jawbone’s healing process, it will grow around the implant post, anchoring it in place. It will take your jawbone about six to twelve weeks to heal. A connector post, called an abutment, is then attached to the post to hold the restoration in place. Impressions will be taken of your teeth so your replacement tooth can be constructed. When the restoration is ready, it is attached to the abutment. Because the implant post is secured in your jawbone, your replacement tooth will look, feel, and act like a natural tooth.
