At Borgmeyer Dental, Drs. Borgmeyer and Borgmeyer often use a filling to repair a modest-sized cavity. Unfortunately, time and inconsistencies in oral hygiene can allow the bacteria living in your mouth to exploit the bond between the filling and the surrounding enamel. If it isn’t caught and treated early, the bad filling can harbor a new cavity.

In a situation like this, our dentists’ only viable course of treatment is to replace the entire tooth enamel layer with a dental crown.

Dr. Borgmeyer and Dr. Borgmeyer will examine the tooth and take a series of X-rays. Assuming the interior structures of the tooth are sound and healthy, they can begin the process of forming an abutment.

Drs. Borgmeyer and Borgmeyer will then use a drill to remove the enamel layer of the tooth, leaving behind a sheath of dentin surrounding the healthy pulp and root of the tooth. This abutment will later anchor the crown firmly in your mouth.

An impression will be made of the abutment and surrounding teeth. When your dental crown is complete, it will be cemented over the abutment.

If you have a tooth suffering from a bad filling and you are interested in a dental crown in St. Louis, Missouri, you should call 314-351-6554 to seek treatment at Borgmeyer Dental.
