If you are one who wishes that your child could enjoy brushing their teeth rather than despise it, we have five ways to help you! If you try one or more of the following things, your child might begin to love brushing their teeth:
No. 1: Make it a family activity
Make brushing your teeth a family activity! If everyone is brushing at the same time, your child will likely follow the leader and brush as well. To make things more fun, spend the first 30 seconds brushing your own teeth, then, when the time is up, have everyone switch and brush each other’s teeth. You can even include the dog if you want to! Just remember: if you brush the dog’s teeth, use a different toothbrush and wash your hands afterward.
No. 2: Play music
While your child brushes, play a two minute song they know and love. Then, encourage them to dance and sing while they brush. Better yet, join them and make it a little tooth-brushing party!
No. 3: Use an hourglass
If you use an hourglass rather than a digital timer, your child will be fascinated with the sand dropping from the top of the glass to the bottom while they brush.
No. 4: Create a bubble machine
Convince your child that they are a bubble machine! The more they brush with toothpaste, the more bubbles they will make. Just for fun, try and see how many bubbles they can make in a two minute time period.
No. 5: Hum a tune
Have your child hum a two minute tune while they brush their teeth. You can also encourage them to move their lips, jaw, and tongue while they hum so they can clean the different angels of their mouth. While they hum, feel free to hum as well! You two can be a two-person band that rocks out together every morning and every night.
